Frequently Asked Questions regarding Juvéderm™
What is Juvéderm™?
Juvéderm™ is a "next generation" dermal filler made from hyaluronic acid — a naturally occurring substance in your skin. It combines with water in your skin to instantly restore lost volume, smooth out lines and wrinkles and enhance lips. Juvéderm™'s smooth gel provides results that are not only instant but long-lasting and natural-looking.
What areas can I treat with Juvéderm™?
Juvéderm™ smoothes unwanted lines, restores natural contours and enhances lips to give you a smooth, natural and refreshed-looking appearance.
Juvéderm™ is best used to:
- smooth the lines around your mouth and nose
- enhance the size and shape of your lips
- reduce crow's-feet
- reduce laugh lines
- fill out your cheeks
The most appropriate lines to treat with Juvéderm™ are those that are described as static—the lines you can see when your face is still. Juvéderm™ can also be used to enhance, or "plump up", your lips, for soft, subtle results that leave you looking your best.
How long does Juvéderm™ last?
The unique formulation of Juvéderm™ provides results that last up to 1 year*, longer than other HA dermal fillers. *Applies to Juvederm™ Ultra, Juvederm™ Ultra Plus.
What makes Juvéderm™ different from other dermal fillers?
Juvéderm™ soft replenishing gel filler employs its patented HYLACROSS™ technology to provide one of the highest concentrations of cross-linked hyaluronic acid of any currently available hyaluronic acid dermal filler for long-lasting results. This advanced manufacturing process works to create a smooth consistency gel that gives you a smooth, natural look and feel. Other currently approved hyaluronic acid dermal fillers have a granular consistency. Additionally, Juvéderm™ is the first hyaluronic acid dermal filler that has demonstrated its safety and effectiveness in persons of colour.
What happens before the procedure?
You will fill out a medical history form and will be asked about your medical history. Dr. Thompson will examine the soft tissues of your face to assess the depth of the wrinkles and folds. What happens during the procedure?
Dental specialists, like Dr. Thompson, usually provide these services themselves and do not delegate to nurses or other staff as in the medical field. The procedure is quick and straight forward. Dr. Thompson will ease Juvéderm™ injectable gel under your skin to reduce or fill fine lines, wrinkles, folds, and scars and following the injections Dr. Thompson will gently massage the treated areas.
How long does treatment usually take?
The injection process is quick and easy and takes only about 15-30 minutes. You'll also need to allow time to consult with your doctor prior to treatment.
What happens after the procedure?
Results are instant. You will see an immediate improvement in the treatment areas. Most people need one treatment to achieve an optimal outcome. Supplemental "touch-up" treatments may be required to achieve and maintain the desired look.
What is hyaluronic acid?
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a complex sugar naturally found in many tissues of the body such as skin and cartilage. It binds to water to create more volume and elasticity in the skin to correct the appearance of wrinkles and facial folds.
What is cross-linked hyaluronic acid?
"Uncross-linked" hyaluronic acid in its natural form is in a liquid state. "Cross-linking" is the process through which hyaluronic acid is made into a gel product that can be injected into the skin for long-lasting results.
Do I need an allergy test?
No allergy test is required with Juvéderm™.
How is Juvéderm™ soft replenishing gel filler used in treatment?
Your healthcare professional will inject Juvéderm™ under your skin using a fine needle to smooth away fine lines, wrinkles, folds and scars. The smooth gel flows easily into the skin, providing a soft, natural look and feel. You will see an immediate improvement in the treatment areas.
What will treatment with Juvéderm™ soft replenishing gel filler accomplish?
Juvéderm™ smoothes away unwanted lines, restores natural contours and enhances lips to give you a smooth, natural and refreshed appearance. Most patients need only one treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing or volume enhancement and the results last up to 1 year*, longer than other HA dermal fillers. *Applies to Juvederm™ Ultra, Juvederm™ Ultra Plus.
Is treatment with Juvéderm™ painful?
Dr. Thompson has 30 years experience in injection therapy and as a dental specialist, Dr. Thompson has a much more developed appreciation of pain control as he works with this system every day, however, some discomfort may occur during and following the injection. Juvéderm™ is injected directly into the skin using a fine needle to minimize discomfort.
New Juvéderm™ with lidocaine lets you feel good before, during and after your Juvéderm™ treatment. The addition of lidocaine, an effective localized pain reliever, to the Juvéderm™ formula makes the whole injection process a more comfortable experience.
What is the recovery time following a treatment?
Treatment requires minimal downtime and most people return to their normal routine right away.
How much does a treatment cost?
The cost of treatment will vary depending on your specific needs and the area being treated.
What are the possible side effects?
Juvéderm™ is generally well tolerated. Possible side effects are mild to moderate in nature and lasts less than 7 days. They may include temporary skin reactions such as redness, firmness, swelling, minor bumps, tenderness and bruising.
Can people with different skin tones/colours be treated with Juvéderm™?
